Many years ago, while living in Africa, I often passed by a small shop in the old town of Marrakech – which dealt in exotic antiquities.
One day, simply out of curiosity and without any intention to buy, I dropped in.
There was a small stand of little wooden and ivory statues, Japanese in origin. The dealer showed me one: it was a miniature geisha grooming a skeleton’s skull. I stood speechless, not realizing that in this moment a new collector was born.

THE STEPS OF THE COLLECTOR
At that point I failed to evaluate the play of destiny: as I have purchased the first object of my future Japanese collection in Africa.
And only years after, when I have already left this continent, I have let myself be overwhelmed by the African Art in all its forms and variety, welcoming this art put a spell on me.
